Sunbabies first appeared in 2008 and have been infesting the studio ever since. When no one is around they sing together, fight among themselves, run around, tease the other works and in general wreck havoc until they hear someone coming whereupon they freeze and pretend to behave themselves like the good little sculptures they were supposed to be.
This cheerful little fellow was made during my chalice binge, and fired at the Beatrice Wood Foundation in Ojai California using her kilns and select luster glazes that cannot be bought. We were not given the recipe so this is truly a one of a kind piece that cannot be duplicated.
The glaze is a red gloss that glows fuscia in the light.
Truly one of a kind.
About 5" high by 2.5" in diameter from ear to ear and 2" in diameter in the bowl. Looks great on a mantle, especially if lit from above.
Not really meant to drink out of, but if you do decide to use it please be aware that dark liquids or acids may stain it. The glaze has not been tested for food safety in a laboratory so I cannot guarantee it is food safe.
